The Basics

General Questions & Pricing

How we work, who we help, and what it costs.

What services does 7iT offer?

We cover the full range of IT needs: computer repair and upgrades, virus removal, data backup and recovery, networking, servers, managed IT plans, cybersecurity, Microsoft Azure and AWS cloud services, Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace, AI and automation, VoIP phones and web design. See the complete list on our services page.

How much does a repair or service cost?

Every job starts with a free diagnostic and a written estimate, so you know exactly what’s wrong and what it will cost before any work begins. No surprises, and no charge just for looking.

Do you help individuals as well as businesses?

Both. We fix personal laptops and home networks, and we support small and mid-sized businesses with everything from one-off projects to fully managed IT.

Do you support both PC and Mac?

Yes — our technicians are experienced with Windows PCs and Apple Macs, along with printers, networks and the other devices that connect to them.

What areas do you serve?

We provide on-site service locally and support clients across Canada remotely. Many issues get resolved the same way we would on-site, over a secure remote session.

What if I don't know what I need?

That’s most calls. Describe the symptom in plain words — “it’s slow”, “email stopped”, “we’re paying for something and nobody knows what” — and we’ll work out the rest. Diagnosing it is our job, not yours.

Repairs & Support

Computer Repair Questions

What to expect when something breaks.

How long does a typical repair take?

It depends on the issue and the parts needed — most common repairs are completed within a few business days. You get a clear timeline with your free estimate, and we keep you updated along the way.

Can you fix my computer remotely?

Often, yes. Software issues, cleanup, configuration and many performance problems can be fixed over a secure remote session. If hardware is involved, we arrange a drop-off or an on-site visit.

My computer has a virus — what should I do?

Disconnect it from the internet and stop using it for banking or email, then contact us. We remove the infection, check what was affected and set up protection to stop it happening again.

Can you recover data from a dead computer or drive?

In many cases, yes. Whether a machine won’t boot or a drive has failed, we assess it for free and tell you the odds and the options honestly before you commit to anything.

Should I repair or replace my computer?

We’ll tell you straight. If a repair isn’t worth the money, we say so — and can help you choose a replacement, then move all your files, email and apps over to the new machine.

What should I bring with a drop-off?

The machine and its power adapter, plus any passwords we’ll need to log in — a device we can’t sign into is a device we can’t test. Laptop bags, printers and cables can usually stay at home unless the fault involves them.

Should I back up my files before bringing it in?

If the machine still works well enough, yes — always a good idea before any repair. If it doesn’t, don’t worry and don’t experiment: bring it as it is and let us look before anything else gets written to the drive.

Do you sell computers and parts?

We can spec and source hardware for you rather than leaving you to guess in a big-box aisle — and we’ll set it up and migrate your data once it arrives. If a cheaper machine will do the job, that’s what we’ll point you at.

Business IT

Business, Cloud & Security Questions

For offices, teams and growing companies.

What are managed IT services, and do I need them?

A managed IT plan gives you proactive monitoring, updates, security and priority helpdesk support for a flat monthly fee — like having an IT department without hiring one. If your business depends on its computers, it usually pays for itself in prevented downtime.

How can 7iT support my cloud service needs?

We provide expert guidance and management for Microsoft Azure and AWS — migrations, day-to-day administration, security and cost optimization — so you get the benefits of the cloud without the complexity. See our hosting options.

Can 7iT help with IT security for my company?

Absolutely. We implement layered security: endpoint protection, email filtering, backups, secure remote access and staff awareness training, tailored to your size and industry.

Can you set up Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace?

Yes — setup, licensing, email migration and ongoing administration. We make sure email, files and calendars work smoothly across all your devices, and we’ll trim seats you’ve stopped using while we’re in there.

Can you help my business use AI?

Yes. We identify practical, safe ways to use AI and automation in your workflows — from document handling to customer communication — and set them up so they actually save you time.

Do you build and maintain websites?

We do. We design fast, professional websites that match your brand, and offer maintenance plans that keep them secure, backed up and up to date.

Can you tell us if we're overpaying for IT?

That’s a service in its own right. Our IT bill audit goes through every invoice you’re paying — domains, hosting, licences, backups, phone lines — and shows you what to cancel, downgrade or move. The first review is free.

We already have an IT provider. Can we still talk to you?

Of course, and plenty of people do before they switch. A second opinion costs nothing, and if the honest answer is that your current provider has it right, we’ll say so.

Working With Us

How It Actually Works

The practical questions people ask on the phone.

What happens when I first call?

You describe the problem, we ask a few questions, and you get an honest first read — whether it’s a remote fix, a drop-off, or something that needs someone on site. No script, and no obligation at the end of it.

How are on-site visits priced?

They’re quoted with the job, and you approve the number before anyone comes out. If the work can be done remotely for less, we’ll tell you that instead of booking a visit.

Who will actually be looking at my computer?

One of our technicians — and for ongoing clients, generally the same ones each time. Nothing gets sent to a third party without telling you first.

What happens to my personal files during a repair?

We access only what’s needed to diagnose and fix the fault, and we don’t go browsing. If a job requires copying your data — a migration or a recovery, for instance — we tell you before we do it.
